Let's Nail Cancer is a social media campaign, running from October 25 - November 25, to bring greater awareness to pediatric brain cancer. Launched by Cure ATRT Now to bring hope to brave children presently fighting brain cancer & in honor of those who have lost their battle with brain cancer at a young age.
More than 4,600 children in the US are diagnosed with a brain tumor every year. Brain & Central Nervous System tumors are the most common kind of pediatric cancers and are the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children. In the US alone, 13 children are diagnosed with a brain tumor every day - irrevocably altering their families forever.
Less than 5% of federal funding for cancer research is directed to pediatric cancer and only a small fraction of that is devoted to pediatric brain cancer research. 100% of donations to Let's Nail Cancer go directly to pediatric brain cancer research.

The Inspiration
Let's Nail Cancer was inspired by Avalanna Routh who loved painting finger nails. Avalanna lost her battle with pediatric brain cancer (AT/RT) at the age of 6.
Avalanna painted finger nails at the spa where she was a "manager" and painted the nails of several Boston celebrities. She particularly enjoyed convincing skeptical men to allow her to paint their fingernails. Avalanna would have loved the idea of people around the world painting their fingernails to show solidarity in the fight against pediatric brain cancer. For that reason, Let's Nail Cancer starts on Avalanna's birthday, October 25.

Avalanna's first "client" was Boston Bruins center, David Krejci. David was visiting children at Dana Farber Cancer Institute's Jimmy Fund Clinic. Avalanna told David that he needed his finger nails painted and Mr. Krejci was a great sport about going along with her wish.
